Political issues have long been important subjects in theological discourses. Different approaches to the matter of political relations have been suggested. Since each approach basically responds to a particular political situation, its relevance to a different social context should be critically considered. Theological approaches which influence the practices of the church in Indonesia in dealing with political issues can be divided in 3 types: pietism, chaplaincy and liberationist. I would suggest, however, that it is more realistic to develop a political theology in terms of inter-religious partnership.
